Weekend/Overnight Visitation Policy for Residential Students
Once full permission has been given for a weekend/overnight visitation, and a date has been established, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to communicate the change to the local school district's transportation services (i.e., Host family to notify bus service about visiting student and the guardian of the visitor to notify bus of their child's absence).
Please Note: All changes in transportation must be communicated by the parents to the local transportation service as well as the appropriate Dean.
Contact the student's Dean before you visit and provide advance notice to reserve guest rooms.
For overnight housing arrangements please contact Student Affairs office at (317) 493.0508.

"We are committed to providing high-quality, student-centered programs that support the student as a whole."
Student Affairs’ primary responsibility is to provide a safe and comfortable living environment for all residential students. Our programs are specifically designed to provide a supportive environment that is free of language barriers, and that provides opportunities for student growth, development, and achievement. The residential hall programs emphasize integration, collaboration, and equality in fostering opportunities and experiences in self-education and self-improvement.
MISSION
We are committed to providing high-quality, student-centered programs that support the student as a whole.
PHILOSOPHY
Students develop best in a challenging and supportive environment where academic and personal development are integral. The Student Affairs' programs are services based on nine dimensions of this philosophy: cultural, emotional, intellectual, life planning, physical, political, sexual, social, and spiritual.
STUDENT AFFAIRS DIVISION
The Student Affairs division offers a number of services and programs at Indiana School for the Deaf. These services and programs include: Health Center, Student Center, Residential Program, After School Club (ASC), Food Services, Athletics, and Camp Willard Summer Program.
STUDENT AFFAIRS
RESIDENTIAL
The Student Life Division has three primary on-campus residential units where residents live during the academic week. The residential halls are Koob Hall for female students, Fair Hall for male students, and the Dixon House, an independent living unit.
The on-campus residential units are designed to accommodate students 3 to 21 years of age. Students reside in the dorms from Sunday to Thursday. During the school year, the dorms open Sunday at 6pm, and Monday through Thursday they open at 3:00 pm. On Friday all students are out of the dorms by 8:00 am.
MISSION
The Student Center, through after-school programs, will incorporate the nine dimensions of student development to ensure growth in relationships, self-confidence and self-health.
OVERVIEW
The Student Center, a department within the Student Life Division, is one of the major programming and servicing units for students with ages ranging from elementary to high school. The Center’s major roles and functions are to implement and coordinate a variety of after-school activities, study hall services, off- campus field trips, clubs, and recreational/intramural programs. The Center also supports the Residential Halls by planning activities, coordinating transportation arrangements, and providing supplies and materials needed for the activities.
The Student Center supervises all administrative aspects of student programming and services such as the Orioles' Snack bar, Resource Center, Arts/Crafts, Student Work Program, Literacy Center, Orioles Nest, Clubs, Student Life Library, Monthly campus wide events and Field trips. The SC aims to provide high quality services for the students.
OBJECTIVES
The SC has four objectives for programming and services:
-
To develop "whole," well-rounded students through a challenging and supportive environment where academic and personal development is integral based on the nine dimensions of the student development philosophy. The nine dimensions are spiritual, physical, intellectual, cultural, emotional, sexual, political, life planning, and social.
-
To build a relationship between academics and after-school programs.
-
To empower students to become independent life-long learners.
-
To promote student leadership and creativity and address the issue of student apathy during after-school hours.
-
Our goal is to not only feed the stomachs of the students but also to nourish the brain! Through the food products that we serve, the cafeterias strive to teach good eating habits that will hopefully last a lifetime.
The Dietary Department would like to introduce ourselves to you by telling you where we are located, and what we do here at ISD.
Elementary Cafeteria is located toward the front of the ISD campus. It sits between the Preschool and Elementary Departments. Elementary Cafeteria serves students from both the Preschool and Elementary Departments.
ISD's Brown Cafeteria is located toward the back of the campus behind the Vocational Building. This cafeteria serves both Middle School and High School students. Both cafeterias serve the ISD faculty, staff, and many campus visitors as well.
Monday through Friday we serve three meals a day-plus! This plus includes but is not limited to, providing food for morning and afternoon snacks, field trips, campouts, picnics, food labs, athletic programs, etc. We are here for any ISD student function requiring our nutritional services. Our philosophy is to provide a variety of high-quality and nutritious meals based upon dietary guidelines established by the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs.
Our goal is to not only feed the stomachs of the students but also to nourish the brain! Through the food products that we serve, the cafeterias strive to teach good eating habits that will hopefully last a lifetime. These services are provided by a team of 15 employees.
This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
