Dear Members of the Board,

I am writing to formally announce my retirement as Superintendent of the Indiana School for the Deaf, effective June 30, 2025. After 33 years of dedicated service to this esteemed institution, with the last 19 years as Superintendent, it is with a mixture of pride and nostalgia that I step down from my role.

It has been an incredible honor to serve at the Indiana School for the Deaf, the first state school for the deaf in the nation with a bilingual Deaf education. Our institution’s pioneering role in bilingual deaf education has set a remarkable standard, and I am proud to have contributed to our continued leadership in this vital field.

Reflecting on my tenure, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such talented colleagues, passionate educators, and inspiring students. Together, we have made significant strides in advancing our educational programs and fostering an inclusive environment that champions both American Sign Language and English.

The achievements we have realized over the years are a testament to the collective effort and unwavering dedication of our entire school community. Every success has been a shared accomplishment, from implementing innovative curricula to expanding support services.

As I retire, I am confident that our foundation will continue to propel our mission forward, ensuring that the Indiana School for the Deaf remains a beacon of excellence in bilingual deaf education.

While it is bittersweet to leave behind a role and community that I hold dear, I look forward to embracing this new chapter in my life with the same enthusiasm and dedication that have defined my career. I am excited for the future of the Indiana School for the Deaf and have full faith in its continued success and growth.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve and your support throughout my career. I sincerely appreciate the friendships and professional relationships that have enriched my journey.

Wishing you all continued success and fulfillment in your endeavors.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Geeslin
