Indiana School for the Deaf Shines at the Battle of the Books National Competition

This past weekend, the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) made a remarkable impression at the Battle of the Books National Competition held in Washington, D.C. This year, 13 teams participated, showcasing their reading skills and competing for top honors. The event celebrated not only the love of reading but also the camaraderie and dedication of students across the nation.
Battle of the Books teams demonstrated its prowess in the competition, securing impressive placements in multiple divisions. In the Buff Division, the ISD Buff team proudly took home second place, narrowly missing the championship title. The competition was fierce, with the Rocky Mountain Deaf School claiming the top spot and the Texas School for the Deaf following closely behind.
But the accolades didn’t stop there! The ISD Blue team also excelled in the Blue Division, again finishing in second place. This consistent performance highlights the hard work and commitment of Blue team students and their coaches.
The individual achievements of ISD Buff team students were equally commendable. Delilah Saunders and Carrie Eicher were recognized as All-Star Readers, showcasing their exceptional reading abilities. Carrie Eicher was also named the Most Outstanding Reader for her outstanding performance, a testament to her dedication and talent.
Additionally, Tristan Dray received recognition as an All-Star Reader in the Blue Division, further emphasizing the strength of ISD's reading program.
In the virtual Bison Division, ISD Bison team soared to victory, becoming the champion! Madelaine Jones and Arianna Reineck were acknowledged for their exceptional reading skills, with Arianna earning the title of Most Outstanding Reader in this division.
The Battle of the Books is more than just a competition; it fosters a love for reading and encourages teamwork among students. This year's event welcomed many first-time competitors, making it an inspiring experience for all involved. The Indiana School for the Deaf community should be proud of their achievements and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition.
