Hello, my name is Matt Krueger and I am the Assistant Superintendent of Student Affairs. I am here to present in ASL a letter that was distributed to the community from our Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, Jeremy Hawk.
Over the last few months, you may recall seeing several messages from myself and Superintendent David Geeslin regarding traffic issues on ISD’s campus. We have seen a steady increase in speeding and stop sign violations over this period and, in the interest of safety, are ready to take the next steps to deter this type of driving behavior on our grounds.
ISD Campus Police officers have already begun to patrol the main roadway through campus during peak traffic times and are issuing warnings to those drivers failing to comply with the posted speed limit of 15mph or to completely stop when required. Over the course of the next few weeks, our officers will begin writing enforceable traffic tickets for non-compliance with posted traffic signs on ISD’s campus. We understand that these actions may not be viewed favorably, but the Administrative Team at ISD and I feel that it is important that all who use our campus understand that safety is priority number one, always.
Prior to taking these steps, ISD increased the number of speed limit signs across campus and installed new stop signs with flashing lights at busy pedestrian walkways in order to communicate the importance of safety and proper driving while on campus. However, we believe there is an additional, very important, part of this process that we need your assistance with. We need all our ISD community members to be vigilant about spreading the news of these changes to your friends, families, and other visitors to campus. It is our hope that traffic tickets will not be necessary as we see a sharp decline in the number of violations and our campus remains safe and secure for all our staff, students, and visitors.

En los últimos meses, tal vez recuerden haber visto varios mensajes míos y del superintendente David Geeslin sobre problemas de tráfico en el campus de ISD. Hemos visto un aumento constante en el exceso de velocidad y las infracciones de señales de alto durante este período y, en aras de la seguridad, estamos listos para tomar las siguientes medidas para disuadir este tipo de comportamiento al conducir en nuestros terrenos.
Los oficiales de policía del campus de ISD ya han comenzado a patrullar la calle principal que atraviesa el campus durante las horas pico de tráfico y están emitiendo advertencias a aquellos conductores que no cumplan con el límite de velocidad publicado de 15 mph o que se detengan por completo cuando sea necesario. En el transcurso de las próximas semanas, nuestros oficiales comenzarán a emitir multas de tránsito ejecutables por incumplimiento de las señales de tránsito publicadas en el campus del ISD.
