Graduation Requirements and ISTEP+
The ISTEP+ test is now a required standardized test for all Indiana students.
It is a qualifying test for High School graduation. Students in Grades 10, 11,
and 12 will take the test during the fall of the school year.
The results will be sent to the parents and students in January. These will help
parents and teachers determine each student's educational needs.
It is crucial that the students do
well on the test. If they have difficulty on the test and fail it during their sophomore
year, students will have up to four (4) opportunities to pass the test during their
junior and senior years. Students in grades 11 and 12 will have the opportunity to pass the ISTEP+ test in the
spring (March). The results will be sent to the parents and students in May.
Criteria for Graduation Without Passing ISTEP+
The criteria for graduating without passing ISTEP+ requires students to work hard
and take advantage of learning opportunities. The criteria also places the
ultimate responsibility and trust on the local educators who best know the
students.
To graduate without passing ISTEP+, a student must:
- Continue to take the test at least once every year.
- Maintain a 95% attendance rate (with excused absences not counted
against the student ).
- Complete remediation offered by the school.
- Maintain a "C" grade point average in 22 specify credits in English,
Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Health, and Physical
Education that are required by the State of Indiana for graduation
(out of the minimum total of 38 credits required by the State for
graduation).
- Complete other graduation requirements.
- Demonstrate, through means other than ISTEP+ and to the satisfaction
of the student's principal, English teachers, and Mathematics
teachers, that the student has Grade 9 knowledge in English and
Mathematics.
